On the Palestinian Unity Government of June 2, 2014 |
LA Jews for Peace welcomes the new unity Palestinian government sworn
into office on June 2, 2014.
One of the reasons that negotiations between Israel and the PLO repeatedly fail is the unequal power of the two sides. Having a unity government partially reduces the power disparity between the sides, and it is a step to unify the Palestinian struggle for freedom, political and economic equality, and justice. Both are good for the eventual resolution of the Israel-Palestine issue and therefore benefit both Palestinians and Israelis. Furthermore, it gives the United States government an opportunity to resume negotiations, especially if it continues to support the unified Palestinian government despite the objections of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
